What is Dental Sedation?
At Hilltop Dental, we do everything we can to help patients feel comfortable and relaxed during dental appointments, including providing dental sedation during dental procedures.
In addition to offering sedation options, we work at your pace, provide calm reassurance as needed and take breaks when you need them. Our dentists can help determine if a dental sedation option is right for you.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Inhaled through the mouth and nose, nitrous oxide helps calm patients even though they are able to communicate and remain awake. This medication also tends to increase pain threshold, lessen anxiety, make time pass more quickly and reduce gag reflex.
Oral Sedation
Your dentist can prescribe oral sedatives in the form of liquids or pills. Take this medication orally before your dental appointment. You'll be awake for the procedure but should feel calm and relaxed.
IV Sedation
Your dentist administers IV sedatives directly into your bloodstream through a vein for the deepest level of sedation possible without general anesthesia. During the procedure, our dental team will monitor your vital signs.
